Coal India''s production set to rise most in 5 years
This financial year, growth in Coal India Limited (CIL)''s output is set to rise to a five-year high. The company, ready to hit the market with its mega Rs 20,000-crore share sale later this year, would exceed the production target of 482 million tonnes (mt) for this financial year, against production of 452 mt in 2012-13, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal said today.

Gas distribution bids for seven cities to be cleared soon
Three years after the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) launched the third round of city gas distribution, it is set to clear this soon, PNGRB sources said. This comes as a breather to Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Adani Energy, Gujarat State Petroleum Corp, Engineers India and GAIL Gas, among the 26 companies that had made 51 bids for the project in July 2010.

Tata Power to scale back spending plan
Tata Power plans to scale back major investments, over the next two years, as it looks to reduce debt, a company official told FE. In the last five years, Tata Power has invested heavily to expand power generation, but has been hit by a change in laws in Indonesia that made importing coal more expensive. This in turn has squeezed the company’s cash flows that have consistently remained negative.

Plan B to Beat load shedding
