| The
Independent Power Producers Association of India (IPPAI) was
set up in 1994 with the sole objective of looking at sustainable strategies
for the development of the Indian power sector. It is an independent body
that provides a neutral forum where issues critical to the development
of the private power sector in India are discussed and examined. IPPAI
provides an interface between all players in the Energy Sector, Policy
Makers (both Central and State level), Electricity Boards, Financial Institutions,
Power Developers, Indian and Multinational Companies, Equipment Suppliers,
EPC Contractors and Consultants. IPPAI’s primary
goal is to bring together all the important players, including government
officials and multi-lateral agencies to discuss generic issues and resolve
problems that are retarding the progress and development of projects in
Indian power sector.
IPPAI has over the last few years conducted over 100
workshops, Round tables, Energy Summits and International Conferences
featuring a wide range of subjects from Financing, Regulation, Policy
Initiatives, and Environmental and consumer concerns by NGOs. These initiatives
have yielded a wealth of data and information on how to tackle these issues
plaguing the power sector. The recommendations that evolved from these
initiatives are forwarded to the the concerned policy makers for their
consideration and necessary action. These events have proved invaluable
to project developers and contributed substantially towards reducing the
negative impact caused by the political and policy uncertainties faced
by the country in the recent past.
Besides providing a neutral platform
for examining generic issues IPPAI disseminates information on the complex
issues in the infrastructure, power and petroleum sectors, as they change
from time to time. IPPAI keeps track of the latest emerging policy trends
which offer a unique and valuable input to ensure success in this volatile
emerging market where policy changes and political uncertainty add a new
dimension almost every moment to the success or failure of project development.
IPPAI interacts with various Indian and International
Organizations, such as Ministries of Power, Finance, Petroleum, State
Governments, Planning Commission and with various trade associations including
Assocham and FICCI. IPPAI has, on its Advisory Committee, experts from
diverse fields who have a unique knowledge base with decades of experience
in the Indian Energy Sector. As IPPAI is a neutral, apolitical independent
Association that does not rely on Government funding, it offers flexibility
and freedom, in interacting with the policy makers and important decision
makers at the State and Central level. These neutral interactions have
enormous value in today's environment
